Solar PV Commissioning And Maintenance
COMMISSIONING & MAINTENANCE
solar PV systems’
Understanding the level of inspection you require will maximise your ROI.
COMISSIONING & MAINTENANCE
For use for quarterly, semi-annual full-site assesments. These reports are also widely used for comissioning inspections and to create a benchmark of the system condition and performance.
‘The most economical method to quickly identify major faults and anomalies in order to gauge the operating
health and production’
ADVANTAGES
- Quick response times
- Economical
- Identifcation of large-scale anomalies that cause a large loss in production and are of the highest
priority such as: - Resolution:
– Module: Entire module is offline
– String: Offine string due to circuit interruption or reversed polarity
– Inverter: Inverter section is offine or significantly warmer than system average.
– Combiner: All strings feeding into single combiner box are ofine or signifcantly warmer than
system average
– Tracker: Tilt tracking mechanism in incorrect or stow position
– Thermal Imagery: 10-15 cm/px
– HD Imagery: 5 cm/px
DISADVANTAGES
- Limited Resolution
- Limits on Module and Sub-Module Anomalies
- Increased possibility of ‘false-positives’ on sub-module anomalies
- No absolute temperature accuracy
COMISSIONING & MAINTENANCE
For use for quarterly, semi-annual full-site assesments. These reports are also widely used for comissioning inspections and to create a benchmark of the system condition and performance.
‘Bridge the gap between overview and comprehensive inspections, delivering an in-depth understanding of a site’s
current operating condition without sacrifcing time, costs or quality’
ADVANTAGES
- All fndings described in Overview
- Go-to for Operation and Maintenance teams
- Module physical fndings only includes shattering, delamination and soiling, eg:
- Resolution:
a. Module physical fIndings
– Shattering
– Delamination
– Soiling
b. Diode
c. Hot Spot
– Thermal Imagery: 5 – 6 cm/px
– HD Imagery: 1.5 – 2 cm/px
DISADVANTAGES
- No absolute temperature accuracy
- Does not meet IEC Standards
COMISSIONING & MAINTENANCE
Inspections performed in compliance with IEC standards.
‘These inspections require a large number of man-hours and time-on-site to complete but deliver and incomparable level of insight into the PV system’.
ADVANTAGES
- All fIndings described in Standard
- Absolute Temperature Delta’s
- Highly detailed
- Identifcation of anomalies such as:
- Analysis in accordance with IEC TS 62446-3 Technical Specifcation:
- Resolution:
– Cell: Single-cell hot spot with ΔT > 4 K
– Junction Box: Heated junction box with ΔT > 4 K
– Substring: Substring in short circuit with ΔT > 4 K
– Photovoltaic Systems – Requirements for testing, documentation and Maintenance Part 3:
Photovoltaic modules and plants
– Outdoor infrared thermography: Identifcation of defects with Class of Abnormality (CoA) 2 and 3
– Thermal Imagery: 3 cm/px
– HD Imagery: 1 cm/px
DISADVANTAGES
- Time and Resource Intensive
