Using aerial thermography, an entire field of solar panels can be inspected quickly checking for any hot spots where there might be problem areas; further detailed geo-referenced visual and thermal maps can be generated.

Thermal capability
IAS leverages the latest in aerial thermal technology to deliver trusted actionable data for your operation. Infrared thermography uses thermal imaging cameras to capture and analyze images of heat emissions. From solar panel and power line inspections to search and rescue operations, aerial thermography can provide an efficient and effective workflow for these operations bring large cost savings over traditional methods.
IAS thermal camera capability comprises of the Zenmuse XT2 featuring a FLIR longwave infrared thermal camera alongside a 12MP visual camera which integrates with the Matrice 600 Pro hexacopter to provide unparalleled data capture and situational awareness during emergency services, disaster recovery, and industrial inspection. The XT2 has high sensitivity (<50mK) thermal imaging at 640 x 512 with a 9mm focal length, meaning that enough visual content is captured to reconstruct the scene as a georeferenced thermal map. The camera also allows for radiometric calibration meaning that every pixel is able to capture precise temperature data. Using onboard intelligent features like the FLIR MSX® technology which combines visual and temperature data into one image, allows us as an operator to easily identify objects of concern. Another smart feature is the Spotlight Pro which lets us focus on safe flight operations and data interpretation while the camera automatically tracks an object through two intelligent flight modes: QuickTrack centers the camera on the selected area while HeatTrack automatically tracks the hottest object in view. A temperature alarm feature interprets thermal data in real time and alerts us when an object’s temperature exceeds critical thresholds.

- Temperature check – tap a point or select an area to check for real-time temp measurement
- Isotherms – focus on specific temp bands to identify whats important
- Colour palettes – adjustable to the thermal data to easily interpret whats happening
- Pip options – optimise the view of the thermal and visual feeds – side-by-side, overlapping and more
Our outputs include fault detection logging with precise location information, high resolution orthomosaic, pointcloud and video of a particular stretch of pylons and powerlines.
